TORONTO NEIGHBOURHOODS

Nestled between Yonge Street and York Mills Road and ending where the Rosedale Golf Club sits, Hoggs Hollow, Toronto is a beautiful and vibrant neighbourhood waiting for you to explore!
Rich in history, Hoggs Hollow, Toronto was originally named after James Hogg. Arriving in 1824 to Toronto from Scotland, he operated the most successful whisky distillery and grist mill in the valley. The estate was subdivided in 1856 and four of the original Hogg’s Hollow houses are still standing (albeit with extensive renovations). Two of the original houses were relocated and now serve as the entrance to Auberge du Pommier restaurant. The other two original properties can be found at 1 and 5 Old Yonge Street.
The majority of the homes in the neighbourhood were built from the 1920s through to the 1960s. When you visit Hoggs Hollow, you will feel like you are travelling through time. Some homes will be in the style of English Cottage, some will be Modernist. You can also find Tudor, Colonial and Georgian styles in the neighbourhood. If you are a fan of window shutters or picket fences, this is the neighbourhood for you.
Hoggs Hollow, Toronto isn’t just a collection of stately residences, however. Within walking distance is the York Mills Centre which is a hub of stores, services, medical offices and restaurants. For those who have a green thumb, the Loblaws Super Store which anchors Hoggs Hollow to the south has a beautiful garden centre. If you continue along Yonge Street you will also find more shopping, amenities and restaurants to enjoy.
If you love history as much as you love steak, you must go to the Miller Tavern (formerly known as Jolly Miller). This 1860s Georgian building was once a rest stop for horses and their riders. Today, it stands as an upscale restaurant were locals can enjoy a mouth-watering steak.
Driving through Hoggs Hollow you will certainly come across the Granite Club. This traditional country and athletics club was founded in 1875 as a curling club. However, if you want to become a member, you will need to rub shoulders with people who can pull some serious strings as this exclusive, invitation-only members club has initiation fees starting at $50,000.
Avid golfers will rejoice to know that Hoggs Hollow is home to Toronto’s oldest and most prestigious municipal golf course. The course is challenging to even the most skilled golfers, so you will always have an exciting time in this scenic setting.
Hoggs Hollow residents are lucky that their nearest subway station – York Mills subway station – also operates as a Go Transit station. At this Go Transit station, you can hop on an express bus to Pearson International Airport. Getting to Pearson shouldn’t take you more than 35 minutes. If you prefer to commute by car, a 400 series highway is only 10 minutes away, as is the nearest hospital and shopping mall. If you are looking to get to Downtown Toronto, it will take you closer to 25 minutes.
